Anxiety and Children (Morning session program: 9.30am-12.00pm)

Dr Adam Partridge; Responding to Reassurance. As parents or educators/workers, we instinctively want to assist children to manage their anxiety. Dr Partridge, Clinical Psychologist at Buckley Consulting Group will discuss the issue of reassurance, whether it’s helpful to provide it, and strategies that you can use to manage excessive reassurance.

Alana Howells; Dealing with Separation Anxiety. Separation anxiety is a common and typical issue for babies and toddlers, but can sometimes continue on into pre-school and school-age years. Alana Howells, Principal Psychologist at Aurora Psychology, will provide an overview of separation anxiety and strategies to support children through this issue.

Anxiety and Adults (Afternoon session program: 1.30pm-5.00pm)

Dr. Scott-Blair West; Treatment and Medications Update. Dr. Scott Blair-West, Medical Director of the Anxiety and Depression Programme at The Melbourne Clinic, will provide an overview of the latest updates and developments in treatment and medication options for anxiety.

Georgina Oliver; An Update on Inflammation and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) in OCD. Previous and more recent research studies highlight the presence of inflammation and oxidative stress in individuals with OCD. A pilot study at The University of Melbourne in 2015 explored the benefits of an amino-acid supplement known as N-acetylcysteine (NAC), which has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties, in the treatment of OCD. Georgina Oliver, Research Assistant at University of Melbourne, will share these results with you and details of upcoming research with NAC for OCD, and other nutrient based compounds.

Dr Jerome Sarris;Lifestyle Modification for Enhancing Mental Health. Dr Sarris, Senior Research Fellow at The University of Melbourne will discuss the impact of diet and nutrition on mental health, and provide tips on modifying your lifestyle to increase your mental wellness.

Rachael Kable;Meaningful Mindfulness. Rachael Kable, mindfulness mentor, blogger and host of The Mindful Kind podcast, will share her own journey with stress and mindfulness, as well as several simple, quick and meaningful mindfulness practices.
