Treatment for anxiety disorders:

If you have OCD, you can’t just stop it by trying harder, but there are ways to recover from OCD with the help of family, friends and health professionals.

There are many treatment options including:

  • CBT and Behavioural Therapy - Behavioural therapies can teach you how to decrease you compulsive behaviour through exposure to your fears. Being able to recognise that your anxiety will decrease and that the outcome will not be a disaster, can help you to recover from OCD. This takes time and needs an experienced therapist to help you re-train the way you react to things that make you worry. Support from family can help you along the way and help you feel more in control of your life.

  • Medication - For some people it is also necessary to take medication as well as behavioural therapy to help control their impulse to perform certain behaviours or rituals.

Learning relaxation techniques such as deep breathing will help you to reduce your stress the next time you start to feel worried and anxious.
